Bird’s nest soup

I was watching the caves episode of planet earth about a week ago and there was one segment on these cave birds that made their own nest not from leaves and sticks they found, but from their saliva. I was fascinated immediately and then when I saw that these nests were collected to be eaten I was even more surprised. I did some research and found that these nests are used in a soup called bird’s nest soup (very original). It is a delicacy in china and is extremely expensive. A bowl of this soup in Hong Kong can be anywhere from $30-$100. Not Hong Kong dollar but U.S. dollars. I thought this was a very interesting food and even more interesting from what it is made from.

  1. Wow! That is crazy! I’ve never heard of that before! It’s really cool that the birds make their nests out of their own saliva…I’m not so sure that I would want to eat it though!
